After an exuberant display of virtuosity from 28 pianists, the jury has chosen 18 to advance to the Quarterfinal Round of the Van Cliburn Piano Competition taking place this weekend from May 24th-25th. Each pianist has prepared an additional 40-50 minutes of new repertoire for audiences and the jury, featuring staples from Debussy, Beethoven, Liszt, as well as some lesser-known names, such as Medtner and Bartók.
Congratulations to all participants in the Preliminary Round for being selected from over 300 pianists to travel to Fort Worth! After a series of energetic performances that impressed both audiences and the jury, the competition has announced the names of this year's quarterfinalists:
