2017 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition
In 2017, thirty piano prodigies provided spectacular performances of the best piano repertoire in the fifteenth edition of the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition! The competitors joined forces with the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra and the Brentano String Quartet under the masterful batons of Nicholas McGegan and Leonard Slatkin to perform to a world-renowned jury, chaired by the very same Leonard Slatkin.
From Mozart’s concertos to Schumann’s quintets and Marc-André Hamelin’s specially commissioned work, each of the four rounds marked an exceptional exhibit of virtuosic musicality, with Yekwon Sunwoo winning the coveted gold medal, Kenneth Broberg securing the silver medal, and Rachel Cheung attaining the Audience Award presented by medici.tv. Not a beat was missed with live broadcasting on medici.tv’s specially dedicated website—featuring a vibrant range of live musical performances, interviews, competition analysis, and backstage featurettes.
